Synopsis: Hannah travels to Korea hoping to reconnect with her birth mother and spend a golden summer making up for lost time. But when she arrives in Seoul, the reunion is far more complicated than she imagined. Her Umma works constantly in a convenience store and seems more interested in stacking shelves and rearranging garden gnomes than bonding with her long-lost Australian daughter. Viewed by her birth mother as a “Koreaboo” — a foreigner fascinated by Korean culture — Hannah must navigate language barriers, cultural differences and questions of identity and belonging as she tries to find a place in Umma’s world. Inspired by real events from playwright Michelle Lim Davidson’s life, KOREABOO is a funny and heartfelt story about family, culture, identity and connection.
