Season: April 23rd - 26th, 2025
Title:Â The Campaign
Presented By:Â Underground Theatre Company
Genre:Â Drama, Historical
Synopsis: The Campaign is an emotionally-charged, real-life account of the 1988 events that led to the decriminalisation of homosexuality in Tasmania. The story follows the arrest of over one hundred activists at Salamanca Market who defied a ban on a petition stall calling for the decriminalisation of sexual activity between consenting adult males. This spark ignited a passionate and historic campaign to change one of the most draconian laws in the Western world, which, by its repeal, became the last of its kind in Australia. Based on personal testimonies, media reports, and parliamentary transcripts, The Campaign chronicles the journey from exclusion to inclusion, from opposition to acceptance, and from hatred to embrace.
