28 Apr 2026

Season: April 28th - May 24th, 2026

Title: The Sapphires

Presented By: Queensland Theatre and Canberra Theatre Centre

Genre: Play / Musical Drama

Synopsis: 1969. The Vietnam War. Bombs are dropping and the world is alive with protest.

Back at a St Kilda club, four young Aboriginal women—Gail, Kay, Cynthia and Julie—are discovered by a talent scout with their Supremes-inspired sound. What follows is a life-changing journey from country Victoria to the frontlines of Vietnam, performing for American troops.

Based on the true story of playwright Tony Briggs’ mother, The Sapphires is a heartwarming, high-energy celebration of music, resilience, and First Nations sisterhood—packed with soul, sequins, and a soundtrack that defined a generation.
