THEATRE: Accidental Death of An Anarchist - PIP Theatre

16 July 2025

Season: July 16th - August 2nd, 2025

Title: Accidental Death of an Anarchist

Presented By: PIP Theatre

Genre: Political Satire / Dark Comedy

About: A classic of political farce meets a razor-sharp Queensland twist in this wickedly funny adaptation of Accidental Death of an Anarchist by Nobel Prize-winner Dario Fo. A young anarchist dies during police interrogation. The official story flips from “accident” to “suicide,” and the public is in uproar. Enter the Maniac—a legally insane master of disguise—who hijacks the investigation with a whirlwind of impersonations and chaos. As he morphs into a judge, a forensic specialist, and even a bishop, he exposes the corruption at the heart of the force, skewering police incompetence with biting humour and madcap energy.

Hailed by Time Out as “wickedly funny… nothing less than brilliant,” this rollercoaster of a play is part explosive satire, part anarchic circus, and an all-too-relevant commentary on power, truth, and absurdity.
