Synopsis: Former priest Johannes Rosmer abandons his faith and social standing in pursuit of modern reason, political freedom and reform. His decision places him at war with an old friend and the traditions of his influential family. Haunted by his wife’s death and drawn towards the enigmatic Rebecca West, Rosmer must confront questions of guilt, desire, morality and whether genuine freedom from the past is possible.
