Synopsis: An extraordinary mapping of Aotearoa New Zealand through the eyes of Tiri Mahana, a 186-year-old Māori matriarch whose life stretches from her birth at the signing of Te Tiriti o Waitangi to present-day Aotearoa.
This bilingual retelling of Witi Ihimaera’s Woman Far Walking explores history, resistance, memory and survival while celebrating Māori women and the rangatahi who will carry Aotearoa into the future. Performed in English and te reo Māori, Tiri reminds audiences that the good and right things in life are worth fighting for.

The work was commissioned by Auckland Theatre Company in 2025 and is performed in both English and te reo Māori. The Sunday 13 September 6:30pm performance is both Auslan interpreted and audio described. Wheelchair accessibility is also available. Children 12 months and under may attend free on the knee; all other patrons require a ticket.
