Synopsis: Australia's largest performing arts event for schools returns to the Sunshine Coast. Wakakirri is a national Story-Dance festival that provides students with a platform to express their ideas, values and aspirations through dance, drama and storytelling. Inspired by the belief that great stories can inspire change, participating schools create original performances that explore social issues, celebrate culture and encourage positive action.
Established in 1992, Wakakirri now engages more than 10,000 students annually, showcasing creativity, teamwork and artistic excellence in professional theatres across Australia. At the conclusion of the season, outstanding schools are recognised for their achievements in storytelling and their contribution to promoting positive social change.
