AUDITION NOTICE: Caravan - Nash Theatre

Synopsis: Caravan by Donald McDonald follows five best friends, all approaching forty, who set out on their first joint caravan holiday to reconnect, only to find that jealousy, ego and unexpected tensions turn their dream break into a hilarious and chaotic ordeal. The play explores friendship, marriage, mid-life identity and the quirky realities of Aussie caravan culture with warmth and humour.


Audition Date: January 17th, 2026

Audition Time: 9AM – 12PM

  • All experience levels welcome (newcomers and returning Nashies)

Performance Location: The Brunswick Room, Merthyr Road Uniting Church, 52 Merthyr Rd, New Farm QLD


Rehearsal Dates: To be confirmed

Rehearsal Times: Evenings and/or weekends

Rehearsal Location: Nash Theatre rehearsal spaces in the Play Shed, New Farm


Warnings: Community theatre production; unpaid roles; cast must be committed to full rehearsal schedule

Performer Age: Roles span adult ages (mid-30s to 40s+ based on synopsis and characters)

Other Information: Cast members must be Nash Theatre members when accepting roles (for insurance and participation).


Available Roles / Character Breakdown:

  • Penny – Age range: 30s–40s; Comic with dramatic undertones. Intelligent and perceptive, balancing loyalty with sharp awareness as Parkes’ wife.

  • Parkes – Age range: 30s–50s; Comic/character role. Genial, authoritative, slightly smug husband of Penny, requiring confident comic delivery.

  • Rodney – Age range: 30s–50s; Light comic/romantic. Charming, opportunistic husband to Monica with energy and unpredictability.

  • Monica – Age range: 30s–40s; Dramatic with dry humour. Calm, intelligent and emotionally guarded observer who reveals more than she speaks.

  • Pierce – Age range: 30s–50s; Dramatic/authority. Serious and commanding, linked closely to Gwendolyn with dignity and purpose.

  • Gwendolyn – Age range: 30s–40s; Comic character role. Opinionated, interfering and theatrically flamboyant, needing confidence and flair.
