Synopsis: The biblical saga of Joseph and his coat of many colours comes to vibrant life in this delightful musical parable. After being sold into slavery by his jealous brothers, Joseph endures a series of adventures and ultimately rises to prominence in Egypt, leading his family to reconciliation and triumph, all set to a lively mix of musical styles including pop, rock, country-western, and calypso.


Audition Date: Saturday 24th January 2026

Audition Times:

  • 10:00am–12:00pm – Main & Supporting Character Auditions

  • 1:00pm–3:00pm – Group Sing & Dance Call (all participants must attend)

  • 3:30pm–5:30pm – Main & Supporting Character Auditions

  • Additional session times available on request on Sun 25 Jan

Audition Location and Address: Gatton Shire Hall, Gatton QLD, Australia


Audition Requirements:

  • Prepare two contrasting songs (~1 minute each) showing vocal strength

  • Main & supporting character auditions include singing and may include a short storytelling or read-aloud component

  • Group sing & dance call mandatory for all auditionees

Rehearsal Dates:

  • Rehearsals commence Saturday 31 January 2026, then weekly on Saturdays through April.

Rehearsal Times: 9:30am–5:30pm on Saturdays (schedule subject to final confirmation)

Rehearsal Location: Lockyer District High School, Gatton QLD


Warnings: LRPA is committed to health & safety; do not attend if unwell. Adult content in Joseph may require cast awareness (e.g., innuendo portrayed by some characters)

Performer Age: All ages welcome - roles for ages 4+ (minimum age 4 for ensemble), with recommended age guidelines for leads and supporting roles

Other Information:

  • Main character roles require stronger vocal skills; ensemble is open to all experience levels.

  • Weekly parent briefings during rehearsals for younger performers.


Available Roles / Character Breakdown:

  • Joseph - Tenor. A strong singer with warmth and charisma. Joseph narrates much of the story through song and carries the emotional arc of the show.

  • Narrator -Strong female or male vocalist (often soprano/mezzo). Acts as storyteller, guiding the audience and driving the action vocally.

  • Jacob - Baritone. Joseph’s father. Warm, dignified presence.

  • Joseph’s Brothers (11 roles) - Various voice types. Includes Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Naphtali, Issachar, Asher, Dan, Zebulun, Gad, and Benjamin. Require strong ensemble singing and characterisation.

  • Potiphar - Baritone. Egyptian official. Confident and comedic.

  • Mrs Potiphar - Mezzo-soprano or alto. Strong character role with comedic and seductive elements.

  • Pharaoh - Baritone/Tenor. Elvis-style rock-and-roll character with strong stage presence.

  • Butler - Tenor. Comic role; featured in “Go, Go, Go Joseph”.

  • Baker - Baritone. Comic role alongside the Butler.

  • Ensemble / Chorus - All ages (minimum age 4). Includes Israelites, Egyptians, Canaanites, and storytellers. Strong movement and ensemble singing required.

  • Children’s Chorus - Younger performers featured throughout the show, integrated into ensemble numbers.
