Synopsis: One of Shakespeare’s wittiest and most entertaining comedies, Much Ado About Nothing centres on love, deception, misunderstanding, and the battle of wits between Beatrice and Benedick. Centenary Theatre Group will use Shakespeare’s original text in an updated setting.

Audition Date: Sunday 18 October 2026

Audition Time: 10:00am–2:00pm

Audition Location and Address: Chelmer Community Centre, 15 Queenscroft Street, Chelmer QLD 4068

Audition Requirements:

• Each auditionee must prepare, memorise, and perform a Shakespearean monologue of their own choosing.

• Auditions will also include cold reads from the script.

• Auditionees should be familiar with the story of Much Ado About Nothing before attending.

• There are opportunities for male and female performers to be considered for some of the same roles, as indicated by the M/F designations in the character breakdown.

Audition Registration: No formal registration process is specified on the audition notice.

Rehearsal Dates: Rehearsals will take place throughout November and December 2026 and January 2027. Auditionees are specifically asked not to audition if they are unavailable for rehearsals during these months.

Rehearsal Times: Three rehearsals per week, consisting of two weeknights and one weekend day. Exact days and times are not specified. Rehearsals will take place at Centenary Theatre Group in Chelmer.

• Claudio Male | Age 25+ A Lieutenant in the Prince’s army.

• Hero Female | Age 18+ Daughter of Leonato.

• Don Pedro Male | Age 40+ A local Prince and Major in the army.

• Leonato Male/Female | Age 50+ Local Mayor and parent to Hero.

• Don John Male/Female | Age 40+ A villain and step-sibling to the Prince.

• Antonio Male/Female | Age 50+ Sibling of Leonato and uncle/aunt to Hero.

• Borachio Male | Age 30+ A villain and follower of Don John. Sometimes the lover of Margaret.

• Conrad Male | Age 30+ A villain and follower of Don John.
