Synopsis: Now and Then is a romantic comedy about the choices we make, and the people who make them with us. Set in a Pub in the early 1980’s in Chicago , Jamie the bar tender is closing the bar for the night when a last minute customer stops in for a drink. He offers Jamie and his girlfriend $2000 to sit and have a drink with him. During the course of their conversation the young couple realise the stranger is unusually invested in their choices and the reason he gives is utterly unbelievable… until the arrival of a second stranger. Now and then is a thought provoking dramatic comedy about reflecting on one’s life, the cost of our decisions, our regrets, the what ifs and the real value of love.

Audition Time: 4:30 pm

Audition Location and Address: Toowoomba Repertory Theatre, 94 Margaret Street, East Toowoomba, QLD 4350

Audition Requirements:

• Closed auditions — audition pieces are provided in the audition package.

• Auditioners will be assessed on interaction with others and character fit.

• Good voice projection and diction expected.

• American/Chicago accent will be needed in rehearsal (not mandatory at audition).

• Theater experience is not required.

Performance Location: Toowoomba Repertory Theatre, 94 Margaret Street, East Toowoomba QLD 4350.

Rehearsal Times:

• Two rehearsals per week initially.

• Possible three rehearsals weekly closer to performance season (schedule developed around cast availability)

Rehearsal Location: Toowoomba Repertory Theatre rehearsal spaces or as advised by the production team.

Warnings:

• American/Chicago accents required for the production (training resources provided).

• Commitment to attend most rehearsals and all performances expected.

• JAMIE – 27 – 35, bartender and aspiring pianist.

• ABBY – 25 – 30, waitress and Jamie’s girlfriend.

• MAN – 60+, sincere stranger; may sing a capella.

• WOMAN – Late 50s – early 60s; strong, direct wife of Man.
