Title: Ophelia Chooses
Presented By: Ipswich Little Theatre Society Inc.
Genre: Comedy/Drama
Synopsis: Ophelia Chooses is a playful reimagining of Shakespeare’s Hamlet in which Ophelia, aided by a modern-day playwright and feminist, gains agency and challenges the male-centric world and even Shakespeare himself to take control of her destiny. Actors move between Shakespearean language and contemporary text as the story unfolds.
Audition Date: February 2nd, 2026
Audition Time: 7:30PM
Audition Location and Address: Audition address provided upon registration
Audition Requirements:
Prepare a Shakespearean soliloquy (comedy, tragedy, or history)
Cold reads from the script will be required
Actors must be comfortable switching between Shakespearean and contemporary language
No accent requirements
Audition Registration: Via the ILT audition form or by contacting the Director.
Audition Pack: Available on request from the Director.
Performance Dates: May 14th - 31st, 2026
Performance Times: Evening performances with possible matinees (to be confirmed)
Performance Location: Ipswich Little Theatre, Burley Griffin Drive, Ipswich QLD
Rehearsal Dates: TBA (generally weekly from late February)

Rehearsal Location: Ipswich Little Theatre rehearsal spaces
Warnings: Adult themes and language; Shakespearean text
Performer Age: Roles range from late teens/20s through mature adults
