JUNIOR AUDITION NOTICE: Macbeth - Backbone Youth Arts & Zen Zen Zo

Title: Macbeth

Presented By: Backbone Youth Arts in collaboration with Zen Zen Zo Physical Theatre

Genre: Youth Shakespeare / Theatre Production


Synopsis: A fresh and modernised take on Shakespeare’s haunting tragedy Macbeth, created collaboratively by young artists alongside industry professionals. The production explores ambition, power, consequence and the supernatural through dynamic physical theatre and ensemble work.


Audition Date: Monday March 30th, 2026

Audition Time: 4:30PM - 6PM

Audition Location and Address: Backbone Youth Arts, 28 Tallowwood Street, Seven Hills, QLD 4170


Audition Requirements: We will make this as fun and chill as possible! Participants will be asked to bring along a 1 min monologue (Shakespearean or Contemporary) and participate in some group drama activities. See you there!

Audition Registration: Please complete the application form HERE to secure an audition. Applications close March 25th, 2026.


Performance Dates: Performances will take place during Backbone Festival 2026, likely on the first weekend of October (exact dates confirmed by festival scheduling).

Performance Times: To be confirmed alongside final festival schedule.

Performance Location: Backbone Festival venues in Brisbane


Rehearsal Dates:

  • Wednesdays Term 2 (April 22nd - June 24th 2026) 

  • Wednesdays Term 3 (July 15th - September 16th 2026)

  • School holiday intensive (28th - 30th September)

Rehearsal Times: Wednesdays, 4:30PM - 7PM

Rehearsal Location: Backbone Youth Arts, Seven Hills Hub, 28 Tallowwood Street, Seven Hills, QLD 4170.


Warnings:

  • Participation requires term-based commitment through weekly workshops and intensives.

  • Applicants should be available for the outlined rehearsal schedule.

Performer Age: Students in Years 9–12

  • Stephen Quinn (Executive Director, Backbone Youth Arts)

  • Additional industry professionals assisting workshop and creative processes.

Other Information: Backbone’s Young Creator Productions gives selected young artists the opportunity to create and perform a major work at Queensland’s largest youth arts festival — Backbone Festival — with professional support and skills development throughout the process.


Available Roles / Character Breakdown: Specific roles for Macbeth aren’t published in advance; casting is ensemble-based, involving young actors selected to collaborate on the production. Final character assignments are typically determined following auditions.
