Synopsis: Inspired by Roald Dahl’s beloved story, Matilda The Musical follows Matilda Wormwood, an extraordinary young girl with a brilliant mind, a vivid imagination and the courage to stand up against injustice. Misunderstood by her neglectful parents and tormented by the terrifying headmistress Miss Trunchbull, Matilda finds friendship at school and forms a special bond with her kind teacher, Miss Honey. As Matilda begins to recognise her own remarkable abilities, she discovers that even the smallest person can challenge cruelty, rewrite their story and make a meaningful difference.

Featuring music and lyrics by Tim Minchin, Matilda combines sharp comedy, energetic dance numbers and emotional storytelling in a celebration of imagination, resilience and kindness.

Audition Time: Auditions: 10:00am–3:00pm, Callbacks: 3:30pm–6:30pm

Audition Requirements:

• Auditions will be conducted in small, workshop-style groups and will assess singing, acting, dancing and suitability for the available roles.

• Grade 9 students must also enrol in one weekly technical dance class, such as Intro to Ballet, Intro to Jazz, or a streamed jazz or ballet class.

• Auditionees will be allocated a 90-minute small-group session. Not all auditionees will be required at callbacks.

Performance Dates: Saturday 28 November - Sunday 29 November 2026

Rehearsal Dates:

• Weekly classes commence Friday 17 July and run across Terms 3 and 4.

• Full-day rehearsals:Saturday 1 August, Saturday 22 August, Sunday 18 October

• Extended rehearsals: Friday 6 November, Friday 13 November, Friday 20 November, Friday 27 November

• Technical rehearsals: Saturday 21 November, Sunday 22 November

Rehearsal Times: Weekly Fridays: 4:00pm–6:00pm, Extended rehearsals: 4:00pm–7:30pm

Warnings: The musical contains bullying, neglectful parenting, corporal punishment, intimidation and themes of child mistreatment, presented within a comedic and fantastical theatrical style.
