< Back THEATRE: Vinegar Tom - 3bCreative 23 Aug 2024 Season: August 23rd - 31st, 2024 Title : Vinegar Tom Presented By: 3bCreative Genre : Drama Synopsis: Set in a 17th-century village, Vinegar Tom follows a group of women struggling to survive in a society where a single label can mean poverty, imprisonment, and death. This raw drama, described by Caryl Churchill as "a play on witches with no witches in it," confronts the fight for control over women's inherent power. Despite its historical setting, the play has a contemporary feel, portraying the story of two farm women accused of witchcraft by a man they spurned sexually. Vinegar Tom goes beyond The Crucible by Arthur Miller, illustrating how the persecution of witchcraft suppressed ancient wisdom and traditional medicine. Created with the Monstrous Regiment Theatre Group, it remains a poignant reflection on the marginalisation of women. The performance features original music composed by Cardie Boydell, providing a modern commentary throughout the play. This event will feature eight to ten young performers each month, each showcasing a talent no longer than five minutes.
