Title: Mainhouse Show 1 – Expression of Interest (Cast Auditions)

Synopsis:
The details of this year’s Mainhouse One production are currently under wraps while the rights to perform the play are being finalised. However, we can reveal that this will be a campy and stylised psychological thriller with ambitious design elements and extensive practical and visual effects. Expect a production that is ooky-spooky, silly, and intensely gory, featuring litres and litres of blood and viscera. If you're up for the challenge, we encourage you to audition!
This play:
Runs for two acts
Features a cast of nine actors playing around 30 characters
Is set in the early 1900s
Contains intense stylised violence and psychological themes, exploring the intersection of trauma and creativity
Audition Details:
Audition Date: Wednesday, 2 April 2025
Audition Time: Morning sessions (15-25 min slots)

Audition Requirements:
Prepare two of three provided monologues (see audition brief).
Demonstrate a range between wild theatricality and heightened realism.
At least one monologue should be performed in a British accent.
Applicants auditioning for a female-presenting role may be asked to showcase a French accent, but do not need to prepare a monologue in full French accent.
The casting process is gender-blind, meaning you may be offered a role in a gender you do not identify with. Vena Cava Productions strongly encourages applications from people with disabilities, neurodiverse individuals, and people from racially diverse and queer identities.
Performance & Rehearsal Details:
Rehearsal Period: 2 rehearsals per week over 8 weeks
Performance Week: Week ending 15 June 2025
Location: Kelvin Grove
Successful cast members must be available for all rehearsals, tech days, and performances.

This production contains:
Extreme stylised violence, gore, and blood
Loud and intense vocal demands (some characters scream frequently)
Sensitive themes, including psychological trauma and bodily harm
Coarse language and sexual references
Performers must be comfortable with:
Being covered in fake blood and viscera
High-energy, physically demanding performances
