Synopsis:
Set in Sydney in the 1950s, "Ladies in Black" tells the story of bookish school leaver Lisa who joins the sales staff in the fashionable department store, F.G. Goode’s. Over a life-changing summer, she befriends the colourful denizens of the women’s clothing department. Each character is on the precipice of change – facing independence, working for a living, and discovering what it means to be a woman.

Available Roles:
Lisa: 16-year-old bookworm, highly intelligent. Star vehicle role. Involved in 17 songs and 18 scenes.
Myra/Dawn: Mid to late 20s. Myra is cheerful, out for a good time. Dawn is cynical and rough around the edges.
Patty: 32-year-old unhappily married shop assistant. Involved in 11 songs and 13 scenes.
Frank: Patty’s 35-40-year-old husband, tile salesman.
Magda: Exotic Hungarian, 40. In charge of Model Gowns at Goodes. Involved in 9 songs and 13 scenes.
Rudi/Lloyd/Fred: Mid to late 30s. Lloyd and Fred are Australian men looking for a good time. Rudi is a Hungarian refugee.
Mrs Miles: Lisa’s mother, late 30s or 40s.
Miss Cartright/Joy: About 40. Miss Cartright is the authoritative manager of the Ladies Department. Joy is Patty’s older sister.
Miss Jacobs/Mrs Crown: 60s. Miss Jacobs has worked in Goodes her whole life. Mrs Crown is Patty’s mother.
Fay: 29-year-old shop assistant at Goodes.
Mr Miles/Stefan: 40s. Mr Miles is Lisa’s conservative father. Stefan is a Hungarian intellectual and bon vivant.
Additional Ensemble Roles: Solo singers, customers in Goodes, "The Voices," barmaid, staff at Goodes, guests at Magda’s party, Fred, Lloyd, Joe, Vronsky, young WW1 soldier, doorman, husbands at Goodes sales.

Full commitment to all show dates is required.
Missing more than three rehearsals may lead to re-evaluation of participation.
All cast are to be active members of Noosa Arts Theatre.
Please note – You may not be required to attend every rehearsal, and this will be covered in rehearsal schedule.
Please don’t audition if you are doing another show that will impact on your ability to attend our rehearsals OR if you are not available for all scheduled performance dates.
